Instant Sewa Services After Sharjah Lease Attestation

Sharjah

Sharjah: Tenants in Sharjah can now enjoy automatic activation of electricity, water, and gas services immediately after registering their rental contracts.

This new service is part of a collaboration between the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (Sewa) and Sharjah Municipality. The process removes the need for tenants to file separate applications or visit multiple departments.

Once the lease is attested by the municipality, tenants receive a text message with the required deposit amount. After paying the deposit, all Sewa services are activated instantly. No additional steps are needed.

This initiative supports Sharjah’s push toward digital transformation. It uses a unified e-link system between Sewa and the municipality to streamline the utility connection process.

Dr. Hussein Al Askar, Director of Customer Service at Sewa, called the move a major upgrade in service delivery. “We previously automated the account closure process after tenants obtained a clearance certificate. Now, we’re simplifying the start of tenancy in the same way,” he explained.

What Changes for Tenants

Previously, tenants had to:

  • Attest the lease contract at the municipality
  • Visit Sewa separately to submit documents like the Emirates ID and attested lease
  • Pay a deposit
  • Wait several days for activation

Now, the entire process is automatic and seamless. Once the deposit is paid, services are connected without delay.

This smart integration aligns with the UAE’s vision to reduce bureaucracy and enhance public services. It also helps Sewa and the municipality improve operational efficiency while saving time for landlords and tenants alike.

Al Askar highlighted that this upgrade goes beyond technology. “It’s about improving the overall customer journey—from contract attestation to immediate utility access,” he said.

With this initiative, Sharjah continues to lead in providing efficient, digital-first services that enhance the daily lives of residents.
