Private sector employees across the UAE will enjoy a paid holiday on Friday, June 27, 2025, to mark the Islamic New Year, ushering in Hijri year 1447 AH. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), in accordance with the official holiday calendar approved by the UAE Cabinet.
With the holiday falling on a Friday, employees who typically enjoy a Saturday-Sunday weekend can look forward to a long three-day weekend, spanning June 27 to June 29. Work is expected to resume as normal on Monday, June 30.
Public sector workers will also benefit from the same break, thanks to the UAE’s unified holiday policy that ensures equal public and private sector holiday schedules throughout the year. This alignment strengthens work-life balance and maintains consistency across all sectors.
Notably, this Hijri New Year holiday comes shortly after the extended Eid Al Adha break observed earlier in June, making June one of the most festive months for residents.
The Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar, follows lunar cycles. The New Year begins with the sighting of the new moon of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.
The UAE government had already included this holiday in the list of official public holidays for 2025, offering residents a chance to plan ahead and spend time with family and friends.
