Man City to Finalize Transfers Before Club World Cup

Manchester City (Man City) will complete their transfer business before the FIFA Club World Cup, confirmed chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

Premier League clubs will open a special 10-day transfer window starting June 1, ahead of the tournament.

Al Mubarak said the club has already identified key targets. “We know the positions and have our top options ready.”

He emphasized that City’s transfer process will be fast and focused. “It will be clear and very swift,” he added.

City face Wydad AC in their opening Club World Cup game on June 18.

The team finished third in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League on the final day.

Their campaign fell short of expectations, with no major trophy won this season.

Al Mubarak admitted last summer’s window lacked urgency. “We should’ve been more aggressive with the changes needed,” he said.

He confirmed the club started its rebuild in January with key signings like Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Nico Gonzalez.

Despite these additions, Man City lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace and ended the season trophyless for the first time since 2016-17.

Looking ahead, Al Mubarak praised the players’ hunger to bounce back. “They’re eager to return stronger,” he said.

He mentioned Rodri and Haaland as examples. “Rodri wants more games. Erling didn’t even want a vacation,” he revealed.

Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, missed most of the season due to a knee injury but returned for the final matches.

City aims to return stronger, with a refreshed squad ready before they head to the Club World Cup.
