Sharjah authorities have arrested a man for selling tap water as Zamzam water at premium prices.
He had converted a residential house into an illegal water bottling unit. He filled ordinary tank water in plastic bottles, labeled them as Zamzam, and sold them through social media.
The Sharjah City Municipality conducted the raid with its Control and Inspection and Health and Safety departments. Officials launched the operation after noticing vehicles frequently loading bottled water from the house.
During the raid, the suspect was caught red-handed inside the premises. Authorities found cartons and plastic bottles labeled as Zamzam water. The bottling process was unhygienic and unsafe for consumption.
The municipality immediately began legal and administrative actions. All seized goods were confiscated, and the house was closed under official procedures.
Obaid Al Teneiji, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, stated that strict action will be taken against anyone threatening public health. He confirmed that the municipality actively monitors such violations.
Invoices found during the raid belonged to RT Mineral Water Trading Company. Although the company was licensed, the man used it to mislead customers and issue fake receipts.
The Department of Economic Development shut down the company after coordination with the municipality. Sharjah Police also joined the investigation and took the suspect into custody.
Sharjah Municipality urged the public not to buy food or drink products from unlicensed sellers, especially online. Citizens should always verify the source before purchasing.
To report violations, residents can contact the Sharjah Municipality call center at 993.
